Developers versus Taskmasters

Great teams have different types of leaders than ordinary teams. John Maxwell is often quoted as saying, “Everything rises and falls on leadership.” I absolutely agree with this statement. Great leaders are developers. Ordinary leaders are taskmasters. Both delegate but with different goals in mind. The taskmaster delegates so that more work can be accomplished. The developer delegates so that others can have a vital learning experience. The task still gets done, but when learning is the goal, the task isn’t just a check on the teams to-do list. It is also an investment in the future.
