Prevent Defense is a defensive formation designed to allow offenses to complete short passes by over playing the deep ball. Teams usually employed the Prevent Defense when they were winning and trying to “prevent” a comeback. John Madden used to talk about how much he hated a prevent defense because it shifted away from playing the way that put the team in the lead in the first place. It was a shift from playing to win to playing not to lose. How many of us are playing Prevent Defense in our everyday life? If we have stopped playing to win, then we need to consider shifting back to doing what we first set out to do.
