Values: Doing it wrong

Values can keep us straight, but they shouldn’t be used to keep us safe. Unless, of course, you value the safety of the status quo. For those looking to improve the world at the cost of their comfortable preferences, values should never be used to limit our risks. A value that is used to limit a team speaks very loudly about the ability of the team to move forward. A competing value needs to be in place that values risk taking and the embrace of uncertainty. Otherwise, values can be used by a team against its own progress. This turns the value into a value against trial, error, and ultimately progress.
