What do we spend the most time doing? What dictates our day? Are we spending time reacting or creating? The distinction is important because I have learned that it is difficult to do both. Things need to be maintained. It’s a fact of life and the result of the curse of Adam or the second law of thermodynamics, which ever you prefer. Great teams don’t get lost in this inevitability. They take care of it so that they can create something beyond maintenance. They understand that what separates a great team from everyone else is the ability to take care of the little things in a way that allows the little things to care of them. Soon their attention to maintenance opens up space to create.
