Learning Less

Nothing hinders learning like excuses and blame. I watched a good football coach whine about the officiating after an important game. He never mentioned the turnovers and mistakes his team made that contributed to his team’s blown lead in a tough rivalry game. I was disappointed to listen to a quality coach place blame rather than accept getting out played by a rival. When a team accepts the excuses for a loss, they learn less. Losses hurt but they are instructional if we accept responsibility for our own actions that contributed to the loss. Choosing to tell a nice story of injustice only perpetuates our “unjust” circumstances.
