Avoiding Obsession

Isn’t obsessing unhealthy? It certainly can be. Obsessing over one thing and neglecting the important aspects of life is not a sustainable lifestyle. There a lot of bad examples of obsessive people that hurt themselves and others. However, there are also a lot of good examples if we are willing to accept that there is a healthy way to obsess over the right things. When we let the good practices of life consume our day, we see progress over time. That’s actually an apt description of discipline. The problem is that we use the bad examples of obessive people to give us an excuse to avoid the intention, effort and attention needed to succeed. Just because people do something wrong, doesn’t mean we have to settle for mediocrity. In the end, the failure of others can be a great excuse to work with less discipline and care.
