Shared responsibility is more complex than the responsibilities I am exclusively responsible for. Great teammates are careful to communicate and make sure no balls are dropped when they share a responsibility. Ordinary teammates use shared responsibility as an opportunity to point at other teammates when balls get dropped. No one wants to work with someone who is uncommunicative in collaboration and throws you under the bus at a deadline while citing a lack of clarity in roles. Every team shares responsibility and how they share it will make or break a team. Any individual can watch a ball drop and cite a job description as to why they didn’t step in. A great teammate asks questions in time to save the day rather than reserving the right to say “I told you so” after the fact.
