Goals will always be a central part of a quality team experience. They help the team see the path to a future that everyone on the team can work together to achieve. Good goals bring a sense of intentionality between the start and finish of the daily grind. Great teams remember that goals are a path to reality and not reality yet. Many teams talk about goals as if they have achieved them. This creates a discrepancy between what is said in a team and what actually happens. If a team states a value that is not quite true, it may not be disingenuous but rather a simple confusion of a goal and a reality. Wanting and talking about a reality doesn’t make it real until the path to that reality is traveled.
