Valuing Communication

Teams must value communication in order to make it a priority. When a team has been conditioned to operate without good communication, it is difficult to shift momentum. Problem solvers can get into a groove where they would rather trouble shoot on their own without help. It can be expedient to eliminate debate and discussion on the path to a solution. Unfortunately, that isn’t being a great teammate. Others might learn that input and feedback isn’t really appreciated. If I don’t feel heard, I may begin to feel as if no one cares about what I have to say and I will get into the habit of not sharing. A culture of communication needs to be cultivated. The lone wolves need to be encouraged to share and listen to those that may have learned to be quiet. Great teams talk because they value the input of others.
