I thrive when I understand that all of who I am is accepted by the team, not just what I do or what I have in common with the team. It’s important that differences are appreciated and liabilities are acknowledged. Teammates must understand that acceptance comes before empowerment. The fear of rejection causes perpetual walking-on-eggshells. Waiting for the moment when my personality is no longer worth it is not an empowering position. Great teams recruit well so they can communicate acceptance with a complete and empowering genuineness.
