Common Sense

A best practice rarely turns out to be the new gimmick learned at a conference or a Facebook article. Best practices are found in the realm of common sense. Common sense is always best long-term but often gets abandoned for the short-term rewards that come from the new gimmick. Most of the new gimmicks that do end up being a best practice over time are usually a best practice from the past that gets re-skinned to fit the current context of the team.
