Conforming vs Belonging

When we join a team, we should acknowledge that we are trading some personal freedoms for the benefit that true teamwork brings. We should not expect to give up our personal identity for the benefit of the team. Everyone on a team should choose to belong to the team culture and environment. They should choose a team that is a good fit for their personality. If choosing to belong proves to be difficult, then there might be a problem with the fit on a team. If a fit isn’t addressed early, then an uphill battle will result in that person being encouraged to be someone other than who they are. A stressful tension will distract all who are involved. We should all be careful to join a team that celebrates who we are.
