Every team must constantly remind themselves of the reason why they came together in the first place. If not, distraction will replace purpose and the team’s focus will drift toward maintaining preferences and disparaging that which threatens comfort. Having lost sight of what is at stake, the purposeless team will coast through the motions, wasting energy on things that don’t matter while the very real threats run their course. Eventually, the purposeless team that has forgotten the “why” will reap the cost of their distracted state and lose their opportunity to make an impact in this very real world.
