The team’s emotion cannot drive the leader’s emotion. The opposite must be true for an effective team. The team leader must act as a stabilizer of the team. If the team leader is affected by the emotion of the moment, it will only contribute to the emotional rollercoaster and the drops will get ever steeper. This doesn’t mean that a leader never celebrates or worries. An effective leader has an accurate assessment of a situation regardless of the emotion of the team. The tail should never wag the dog.
